Good News for you English and Biology Majors...

Drexel University's faculty of the Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology recently voted to change the name of the department to the Department of Biology. This change has been approved by the University leadership.

The faculty was in unanimous agreement that the former name was not descriptive of the department’s mission or activities. The faculty believes that the new name better reflects the broad range of research and teaching activities of the department, and its status as a world-class research unit.

The Department of Biology is the second-largest department in the University in undergraduate enrollment. More than 120 graduate students pursue master’s and doctoral degrees in various areas of study.

Sorta have to wonder why it took them so long to choose a name that is more characteristic of (A) what they study/research and (B) what names other institutions use. Well, congrats to Drexel's new Biology faculty!
